Our profession has not created a space for therapists to grieve when we lose a patient to death—whether through accident or illness, expected or unexpected. The private nature of our work means that our relationships with patients remain separate from our everyday lives, both in their living and in their dying. As a result, we have no shared customs or rituals to acknowledge these losses.
If you would find it helpful or supportive to attend a Memorial Service tailored specifically for therapists who have lost a patient, you are invited to join a 55‑minute service held over Zoom. This offering will be available each season—Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring.
This is not a training or a support group. There is no cost. It is simply a place to grieve in community with colleagues.
